Norma groundhogs are probably agraid of there own shadows because there not smart enough to know that when they see there shadowthey could just turn around to see if there is a predator behind them

''This morning, people all over the U.S. waited to find out if a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil would see his shadow when he emerged from his burrow, or underground home.

Why? It’s Groundhog Day! Legend has it that if Phil wakes up on a cloudy February 2nd, he'll stay outside his burrow for a while. That means winter will soon be over. But if the sun is shining brightly, Phil will scamper back inside, frightened by his shadow. Then he will go back to sleep for six more weeks of winter.'' C- My P was wrong.

"Today, Phil saw his shadow, even though a few clouds skirted across the sky near his home in Pennsylvania. That means we will see six more weeks of winter weather—if you believe Phil. " WOW- stay inside and the groundhog can't see you and groundhog cant really see you if you lock your doors and shut your windows!

"What started as a small gathering in 1887 has now evolved into tens of thousands of visitors from around the nation and even the world coming to Punxsutawney to participate in this time-honored Groundhog Day tradition," explains Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett.

Corbett and other state officials took part in this year’s ceremony, in which tens of thousands of Phil’s fans gathered in top hats and their finest suits to watch the groundhog come out of his burrow.

To this day, many groundhog celebrations held in Pennsylvania forbid the speaking of any language except Pennsylvania Dutch—a form of German spoken by early settlers in America. People must pay a nickel or dime for every word spoken in English.

In all the years that people have been keeping track of Phil’s predictions, the groundhog has seen his shadow 100 times and predicted an early spring only 16 times. Will this year’s forecast turn out to be true?" C- i hope it is true

"What started as a small gathering in 1887 has now evolved into tens of thousands of visitors from around the nation and even the world coming to Punxsutawney to participate in this time-honored Groundhog Day tradition," Yeah what started all this why do we have to listen to a groundhog so he can tell us when Spring is here and when Winter ends.
